Shiatsu is a hands-on Japanese healing therapy. The
philosophy underlying Shiatsu is that vital energy (known
as Ki in Japanese) flows through the body in a series of
channels called meridians. For many different
reasons Ki can stop flowing freely and this produces an imbalance
in this flow. A session will normally last about 60 – 75
minutes. The first session will last longer as I will have
to take a detailed case history of your health according
to the principles of oriental medicine.
Following a diagnosis based on your lifestyle, I may employ
techniques such as pressing with palms, thumbs etc., on meridians
and acupuncture points. Where applicable some stretching
and if practicable rotation of limbs. Other methodologies
I may employ within your treatment, are Moxa, Cupping and
Sotai within the Shiatsu session. These may also
be stand alone treatments.
The client remains clothed during Shiatsu and needs
to wear comfortable clothing - preferably cotton e.g. ,a
track suit. Traditionally, the client reclines
on a futon at floor level, but if unable to be
on the floor I can work on a therapy table or seated
in a chair.
